Just 50 km east of Riga, Sigulda is a natural paradise that has soothed city slickers for more than a century. It is a mecca for hikers, artists and anyone seeking inspiration and connection with nature.
On the Sigulda Full Day Tour, we will experience the awesome landscapes of Gauja National Park, legendary castles and adrenaline pumping adventures like the world-class bobsleigh track. And it's gorgeous in every season, so let's get going!
Our first stop is the famous Sigulda bobsleigh track. We take the elevator to the starting gate for spectacular views of the national park, and on weekends you can go down the bob (see Tour Details).
Then we visit beautifully restored Sigulda New Castle, a 19th century aristocratic residence whose interior is an Art Deco masterpiece.
Next door, the ruins of the medieval Livonian Order Castle offer an evocative trip back in time.
We drive into the Gauja River Valley and explore the legendary Gūtmaņa Cave, where I will tell you the story of the Turaida Rose, a maiden who gave up her life for love.
On to Turaida Castle, the historic bishop's residence which is gradually being restored. There's a fascinating museum showing what life was like in the castle in bygone days, and we can climb the tower for more awesome views.
At Turaida, we will also stroll along the Hill of Folk Songs, a park full of epic stone sculptures dedicated to Latvian folklore.
Finally, heading back to Riga, we stop for lunch at Raganas Ķēkis (The Witch's Kitchen) bistro in Ragana village. Despite the name, it's a friendly, good value place serving delicious Latvian food.
Get enchanted by Old Riga or blown away by brilliant Art Nouveau, grab a tasty market bargain or time travel to the USSR.
Enjoy an eye-opening walk or a deep-dive drive in Jūrmala.
And mind your manors in Kurzeme or take a speedy slide in Sigulda.
